REGULAR WHEELS TYPE A BOX
REGULAR WHEELS - TYPE A BOXES 1953-54 Released in 1953, this box type is the very first in which Matchbox models were issued. It consists of a yellow carton with the words "Matchbox Series" in arch, with "A Moko LESNEY" in scroll. Note that "Moko" appears in script. Only seven models were issued with this hard-to-find box type and they are models 1A to 7A. MAJOR VARIABLES There are no major variables for A boxes. There is only one major type with no sub types unlike B, D, E and F boxes. SIZES “A” boxes only came in two different sizes: - 1 (57 X 22 X 38 mm) - 2 (57 X 26 X 38 mm) TOP AND BOTTOM All A boxes have a dark blue top and a black bottom. In the listing provided on this site, all TOP/BOTTOM columns only mention “Blue/Black”. HOW TO USE THE A BOX LIST For every model available with an A Box, every major variation will be illustrated with a front picture of the box, according to one of the major variables discussed on the present page. The first set of characters in the variation number is the box type, followed by the number of the variation and a letter for the minor variation.
